A beautiful period piece rich in emotion about the infamous "Black Sox Scandal" of 1919. It was a time when baseball players were the heroes of the day, until the underpaid and underappreciated players of the Chicago White Sox threw the World Series and brought shame to our national pastime. Examining the events which led up to the darkest days in the history of American sports, Sayles has assembled a fine team of young, talented actors. Sayles should be commended as both writer and director for the depth and clarity he brings to the almost 20 characters whose individual stories seem to effortlessly intertwine to tell this fascinating and sorrowful tale.
