When a young woman (Rowan) loses both her father and husband to the Candyman (Todd), she comes to realize that maybe the two are bound by more than just coincidence. Clive Barker's hook-handed menace returns in this savage sequel that explains how the urban legend came to be. Taking place as though the original never happened, Condon's film more directly tackles the topic of racial harmony and intolerance, though it relies less on mysticism than on sheer blood and guts horror -- a combination that may or may not please the original audience. Philip Glass' mesmerizing and passionate score adds just the right note of poetic justice to this tragic tale.
