This dynamic documentary chronicles the remarkable music scene that emanated from Athens, Georgia, home of R.E.M. and The B-52's. Packed full of the earnest and energetic sounds of the town's many locally born bands, the film depicts Athens as the cultural Mecca of an artistically suppressed South attracting the refugees of the Bible Belt. Far from your standard refugee fare, however, these bright-eyed Southern youth have exploded onto the national music scene with a vengeance. Spectacular concert footage of R.E.M. and The B-52's is augmented by the intimate "small club" footage of up-and-coming bands.
