Six years after the release of the highly enjoyable Stakeout comes this inferior sequel, ill-timed and only sporadically entertaining. Dreyfuss and Estevez, neither looking the worse for wear, repeat their roles as Seattle surveillance cops. Their new assignment is to lay in wait for a government witness who has flown the coop. They are joined by Assistant D.A. O'Donnell, whose lack of both training and tact causes an immediate personality clash with our laid-back jokesters. Only a mistaken identity subplot elevates the film, as the policework is virtually nonexistent and the comedy hit-and-miss.
