Clothes-line Alley is a neighborhood near San Francisco's Chinatown, where Amarilly (Pickford) works as a cigarette girl in a nightclub. One night there, she takes home an injured socialite. As thanks, he hires her to clean his apartment and, over time, falls for her. But their places in society are so different that problems are inevitable, especially at a posh gathering.
