Lt. Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) is the lone survivor when her crippled spaceship crash lands on Fiorina 161, a bleak wasteland inhabited by former inmates of the planet's maximum security prison. Ripley's fears that an Alien was aboard her craft are confirmed when the mutilated bodies of ex–cons begin to mount. Without weapons or modern technology of any kind, Ripley must lead the men into battle against the terrifying creature. And soon she discovers a horrifying fact about her link with the Alien, a realization that may compel Ripley to try destroying not only the horrific creature but herself as well.

Review

The third chapter in the Alien series from first–time director Fincher follows two classics in the horror/sci–fi genre. Fincher had his work cut out for him—and though his vision delivers some of the goods, there's no comparison to the first two films. Sigourney Weaver, with shaved head, returns as Lt. Ripley, and it seems she's brought an old friend along. Ripley has crash landed at a maximum security prison on some distant bleak planet. And there's not much for her to do but balance her time between the hostile inmates and one angry alien who's come a–lookin' for one final confrontation. Like the music videos Fincher cut his teeth on, Alien³ has a great look but very little substance.
