Review

Productions of "A Christmas Carol" sure are a dime a dozen, but when this made-for-TV gem popped up on the TNT network back in 1999, we knew we were seeing something special. As always, this story is only as good as its Scrooge, and star/producer Patrick Stewart is as fiery as they come. Even his tensest moments on "Star Trek: The Next Generation" won't prepare you for his commanding presence, honed from 10 years on Broadway. Though made for cable, the production values are superb, and if it weren't for the 1.33 aspect ratio (due to it being shot in the pre-HDTV era) you'd think this was a big-screen movie. I was surprised talking to friends that almost nobody has seen this version. You owe it to yourself to give Patrick Stewart's Scrooge a watch this year.
