Detroit, 1975, is the setting for this rambling, finally-coming-of-age drama about three high school buddies drifting nowhere three years after graduation. Told through the eyes of Mort (an aspiring Jewish writer who sleeps until noon and hangs out with his dopey ex-jock friends), the story concerns the growing up that occurs when the gang considers smuggling drugs from Canada. Writer-director Binder's film comes off as a dramatically enhanced autobiography depicting what might have been his "good old days," but the screenplay at its worst gives way to clichés about tough, young adulthood.
