In the late 1950s, beautiful 21-year-old New Yorker, Linda Riss, met successful ambulance-chasing lawyer, Burt Pugach, who showered her with gifts and seemed to worship her. Unfortunately, she eventually discovered that he was already married and in no hurry to divorce his wife. After years of playing “the other woman,” Linda reluctantly decided that she had had enough, and she accepted the proposal of a younger, more handsome man. On the eve of her bridal shower, there was a knock at her door. When she answered, she was startled to realize it was an enraged Burt, who had come with violent and shocking intentions. If he couldn’t have Linda, he explained, nobody could. Even after he was put away for his crime, he could not be kept apart from the lovely Linda of his imagination, who was now a mere shell of her former self as a result of his violent act. What might have been a maudlin melodrama has a surprisingly bizarre final act when Burt goes from jailbird to lovebird and attempts to woo back the girl who got away. Jaded tabloid readers, students of aberrant psychology and fans of Court TV will be mesmerized by this offbeat love story of unconventional co-dependency.
