Review

With the popularity of cell phones, it was only a matter of time someone would make a movie with the little gadget as a starring vehicle. When Jessica (Basinger) gets kidnapped and locked in an attic, the bad men smash the phone that is on the wall so she can’t call for help. That doesn’t stop her; she fumbles with the wires and magically connects to a stranger named Ryan (Evans) who is obviously skeptical at her pleas for help but after a few short minutes is fetching police, stealing cars, robbing cell-phone stores and dodging bullets all to not only keep this woman he doesn’t know alive, but also to make sure his celly doesn’t die. Every obstacle that prevents Ryan from saving Jessica and her family is so far-fetched and silly that Cellular’s intended action-suspense genre camouflages itself as a comedy. When all is said and done, this would've made one hell of a spoof on how the whole universe has been abducted by an obsession with the cellular telephone.
