Synopsis

Steve and Billy's monogamous relationship has gone stale until Billy, ever the exhibitionist, shows them a way to spice up their sex life.

Review

The aptly titled Busting Billy’s Butt by the Australian writer Barry Lowe features the title character in a long series of sexual adventures, often in public places. The couplings (and triplings) start out to be pretty hot but get quite repetitious after a while. The real protagonist and narrator of this episodic novel is Billy’s partner Steve. His lover is young, gorgeous, and endowed with a butt that every gay men seems to covet as well as half the straight men, but their relationship has grown stale. That is until Billy decides to re-pique Steve’s interest by having sex with multitudes of other men while his partner watches. It accomplishes its purpose but they both get turned on by the voyeurism. Billy’s first mass adventure is with the entire cast of a gay production of The Pirates of Penzance, all of whom have their way with him. This ends the relationship and Billy is turned over to an S/M couple who make a virtual slave and sex pig out of him. Although he reconciles with Steve he still cannot remain faithful and a further spate of sexual encounters follows. Unfortunately not one of the characters is really sympathetic and at almost 400 pages every sex act begins to look like sloppy seconds. The writing is good but there are just not that many different ways to portray randy sex.
