The very hot collection of stories called Boys Getting Ahead reveals there is much more to office work than just sitting in a cubicle in front of your computer. In fact if you remove one letter from the title it would concisely describe all these stories because the characters liberally mix their daily workload with large dollops of another kind of load. This is the latest compilation edited by Mickey Erlach who is also responsible for such titles as Boys Caught in the Act, Cruising for Bad Boys, and Pretty Boys and Roughnecks. It contains 21 stories that take place in a variety of work locations including a police car, a penthouse and a big rig. For the hustlers the street corner can also considered a workplace. What the stories have in common is a lot of graphically described sex and young or middle aged men who are invariably well-built and handsome. The reader might wish that all bosses looked like this in real life and that all job interviews were conducted in the way that some of these are. As is usual in a large compilation the stories vary in quality with a few being very good and others less so, but all faithfully bear out the book cover’s tagline “They’ll undress for success!”
