Although "Boat Trip" was, upon original release, monumentally dumped upon by critics (and still is), it is, on the contrary, a intensely humorous, stylishly sexy romantic farce that consistently delivers laughs, charm, and sex appeal. Cuba Gooding Jr. and "Saturday Night Live"'s Horatio Sanz make an fiercely appealing and fiercely energetic buddy duo, with Gooding, in particular, delivering in the likability department. Vivica A. Fox--here, bless her, completely jettisoning her usual often-irritating "homegirl" mannerisms--Roselyn Sanchez, and Victoria Silvstedt contribute greatly appealing sexiness and greatly appealing energy as the women with whom Gooding and Sanz interact, with Sanchez making an especially pulse-quickening impression. Roger Moore expertly sends up his James Bondian suavity and cool as Gooding and Sanz's homosexual pal and, eventually, ally. Mort Nathan, as screenwriter and director, respectively gives the principal players very funny and very lively dialogue and skillfully keeps the action moving and on-track. In sum, "Boat Trip" may not have made (and still may not make) the critics happy but the rest of us can take pleasure that's engagingly high-spirited, appealingly straightforward, and always, always loaded with beguiling warmth, pant-worthy sexuality, and pointed humor.
