Giovanni, renowned photographer in Milan's fashion industry, felt the deep need to produce something lasting along side of his extremely short-lived and fleeting fashion photography. Since his first publication of Bites in 2005, his books celebrating the phallus have become repeated best sellers.
There is only one thing on display in this fat book – cock! Normally I would think the use of the word “cock” is too vulgar but it seems appropriate here. I also use the word fat to describe the book because it is – 336 pages!
Bites XXL is the compiled work of photographer Giovanni. After publishing three volumes of his work – Private Parts, Un*/Cut, and Bites – all of which became best sellers on their own, Bruno Gmünder decided to put them all into one volume!
And believe me when I say that this is a timeless classic that you will never tire of. I can call it timeless because let’s be honest, cock never gets old! Big, small, black, white, cut, uncut, gigantic, hard and soft, every variety of cock is represented here. There are no faces but there are some incredible bodies and a few hot cock and ass shots. We are even treated to a few cum-covered man-sticks.
This book is just incredible! Nothing excites us more than seeing a beautiful cock standing at attention and this collection delivers page-after-page of the stuff our wet dreams are made of.
As an added treat, Giovanni sat down for a Q&A at the end of the book.
Bites XXL is a compilation of Giovanni's three previously published books and also includes new work. Using different kinds of film, he has created quite a work. The photography is fine and the book is designed beautifully and what Giovanni concentrates on is the penis. This in itself makes the work interesting (for many, I am sure). It is informative and the photographs are sensitively done and what makes the book that much more interesting is that Giovanni uses different situations and settings. At the end of the book is an interview with the photographer which is as sensitive as the photographs.

'...an intense memory of a unique, unpredictable and exquisite moment of intimate complicity.'
Grady Harp wrote on 10/20/2009:
And so Giovanni states in his Foreword to this newest book, a book that is not only a compilation of his three previously successful books - BITES, PRIVATE PARTS, UN*/CUT - but a photographic monograph that includes new work as well. As Giovanni further shares with the reader 'I used the whole array of my working techniques, shot on different type of film - analogue, digital, colour, black and white...With the help of studio lighting I created landscapes of flesh and blood and full-frontal portraits, without negating the snapshot quality of the work.' And for those readers who are unfamiliar with the name of this photographic artist, 'Giovanni' is a nom de plume for a famous fashion photographer in Italy, a man who wishes to remain anonymous to his primary career of classy Italian fashion.
As with his other books, what makes this volume important is not only the fine quality of the photography and the first class design of the book itself, but also the frank courage to focus on that part of the anatomy the world has such difficulty dealing with historically and at present - the male phallus. Just as some famous artists have elected to repeatedly paint haystacks, or a single cathedral form multiple angles and seasons of the year, or pond after pond of water lilies, Giovanni explores the organ of origin in settings and manners that keep the topic fresh and interesting. Alternating between black and white and color and sepia tones he presents models in partial clothing and without clothing, in aqueous atmospheres and in obvious studio environmental poses, Giovanni reprises Bites, then Private Parts, then Un*/Cut and ends his book with 'Above Average - new images not published before. The book ends with a frank interview conducted with a nameless interviewer who poses questions to Giovanni about why and how the artist has elected to pursue this avenue of art and the process he uses to achieve his end result. It is informative and sensitive, a fitting end to a book that is a work of courage
