Jack Wyatt (Ferrell) has hit a major slump in his acting career. The suggested remedy to revive his image is the remake of the classic TV show "Bewitched," with Wyatt in the lead role of Darren and an unknown actress to play Samantha, who’s role will be diminished to ensure the spotlight shine on him. After countless bad auditions, Wyatt thinks he's struck gold when he finds Isabel (Kidman), who seems too good to be true – probably because she’s a real witch. Isabel has taken an oath to stop using her magical powers which makes working on the show a major conflict, but sets off on a vengeful tangent once she discovers what Jack and the producers have up their sleeve. While Kidman and MacLaine (as Endora) are perfectly cast in their roles, the attempt to relive the magic of the series in a satirical movie never really works. Perhaps the biggest flaw is the casting of Ferrell, and the decision to involve romance between he and Kidman who have absolutely no chemistry. Ephron knows how to get a few laughs (mainly thanks to Kidman) here and there but overall the screenplay is in need of a whole new spell.
