Review

Reminiscent of The Parallax View in terms of suspense and smarts, this stylish, tense conspiracy thriller sets a taut pace for itself and rarely lets up. In a gripping performance, Bridges is Michael Farraday, a college professor who, in the film's unnerving beginning, saves the life of his neighbor's son. Befriending the couple, the Langs (Robbins and Cusack), Farraday slowly begins to suspect that this Ozzie and Harriet couple may be plotting terrorist bombings. As he digs deeper, he soon puts himself and those around him in harm's way. Director Pellington is equally adept with his action scenes and the more intimate, personal moments. He makes sure that you're never ahead of the game, and rattles you a little if you think you have it all figured out. Robbins and Cusack underplay their parts wonderfully, bringing just the right amount of civility and menace to their roles.
