I've been passing over this small film for more than a year now. It looked interesting, but... Well, you know how it is: Sometimes a good film gets defeated by its own understated publicity. But last night I decided to watch it on HERE! rather than buy the video and it was one of the most charming and original films I've seen in years.

James Vasquez, who wrote and stars in 29th & GAY, has an unique and fun sense of humor. His story is worthy of Chaplin's Little Tramp. No matter how hard he tries to find love, romance, and career, it all eludes him, but in increasingly funny ways.

The rest of the cast provides strong support to Vasquez. They are real, ordinary, and delightful. Mike Doyle as the cute latte boy will take you back to memories of your first big-time boyfriend and David McBean glows as Vasquez's best and closest friend who can discover a new conquest on every corner.

James Vasquez is also the author and director of READY? OK! which will be released later this month. I won't put off seeing that one!

Well, I'll never get that hour and a half of my life back. Maybe my expectations were too high? I don't know. There wasn't anything original in this movie, and I'm not sure if it was supposed to be a comedy or a love story??. It was just kind of......there. Very bland.

You ever watch a film and say to yourself, “Boy, I’d love to hang out with these guys”? That’s exactly how I felt while watching a new DVD release from TLA Releasing.

James Vasquez, who wrote and stars in this charmer, plays James, your average gay guy looking for love, a career, and just what life has to offer, on his way to becoming 30. James has the support of two charming and likeable friends, the fag hag Roxy (Nicole Marks), and Brandon (David McBean), the party boy who loves going out cruising, and the support of his parents, that includes some funny flashbacks from Christmas. All in all, James just wants to be lucky in love, whether it’s the guy next door or the clerk at the coffee shop while trying to pursue a career in acting.

Carrie Preston directs and does a nice job, and there are a number of funny sound and visual effects that just hit the mark. Especially clever is a “silent picture” date segment James goes on, that’s really good! It’s nice to see a gay themed story that doesn’t have to resort to gratuitous sex and nudity, pretty boy model types, and the typical storylines that so many seem to have. This is a heartfelt, charming, witty, and clever story that I’m sure will win you over!
